Lesson 8

Lesson Title:  The Book that Saved the Band - Lesson 8

Synopsis: Photo shoot and CD release party.

Interdisciplinary Pairing

  • Primarily Language Arts
  • Secondary subjects include:
    • Music
    • Multimedia
    • Graphic Design (Art)

Objectives:

  • The band will be photographed to represent their image and their product.
  • Note:  the photo shoot could be done in earlier lessons (starting with lesson 3) and incorporated into their CD booklet.
  • The photographs can be manipulated using software such as  iPhoto, Photoshop Elements, and so forth.
  • The finished photos can be incorporated into school, teacher and student web sites, newspapers, local television, etc.
  • The bands will share their mastered music at a CD release party.
  • Bands will share their mastered music with an audience (class, school, radio show, concert)

Intended Grade Level:

Middle School

Prior Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Completion of all or most of the prior lessons – 1 through 6.

Equipment

  • Digital camera or scanner to scan printed photos
  • Optional: Digital photo editing software such as iPhoto, Photoshop Elements, etc.
  • Play back equipment for the CD party (CD player with speakers, Boombox)

Duration: 

The manipulation of photos can take place over several class periods, but a simple CD release party can be one class period or held in the evening with parents invited to attend.

Materials:

Procedure:

  • Complete some or all of the procedures in Lesson 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7c [add a direct link to each lesson]
  • The student group members (the band) will develop their band public image in terms of style, props, costumes, and so forth.
  • Photographs of the band will be taken and, if desired, digitally manipulated to enhance their public image. 
  • Organize a CD Release party where the band shares or performs their music, presents their personas, and photographs are displayed.

    Note: The project can be stopped at this point or students can continue the project lessons.

Evaluation:

  • Portfolio of materials that have been produced or created to this point (CD, booklet, photographs and image). The purpose of this is a celebration of each band’s creations.
