  • The students should be comfortable using sequencing software such as GarageBand, Cubase, or SONAR HomeStudio.

Equipment

  • Computer lab with sequencing software with recording capabilities such as GarageBand, Cubase, or SONAR HomeStudio.
  • Internet access

Duration:

This lesson takes place over 2 - 3 45-minute class periods.

Materials:

Procedure:

Day 1:

  • Teacher reviews the Fibonacci sequence with the students
  • Students use weblinks provided as a resource for information about the numbers in the Fibonacci Sequence
  • Teacher distributes LESSON #5 HANDOUT
  • Students are placed in groups of 2 or 3 to work on the project
  • Teacher reviews process of creating music with sequencing and recording software titles such as GarageBand, Cubase, or SONAR HomeStudio
  • Students brainstorm ideas for incorporating the Fibonacci sequence into their musical compositions

Day 2:

  • Students are given ample to time to create their Fibonacci compositions

Day 3:

  • Students incorporate their Fibonacci compositions into their PowerPoint or Keynote presentations

 Evaluation:

  • SCORING RUBRIC - LESSON 5
    • Scoring final project
    • Put finished songs into the presentations created in Lesson 4 - The Magic of Fibonacci
