SIBELIUS: Notation Software for the 21st Century

LOOK AND FEEL
Sibelius is an exciting new notation program that is revolutionizing music creation. Created by musicians for musicians, Sibelius takes notation software to the 21st century and the offers the perfect combination of power, speed, and ease of use. The look and feel of Sibelius features an intuitive design with clear, instant graphics. There are no labyrinthine menus and dialogs to navigate, and no waiting for the screen to redraw. Sibelius will revolutionize the way you work; whether you're a composer, arranger, performer, teacher, student, conductor, copyist or publisher.

WRITING MUSIC
When writing music, no cumbersome setup is required. You select the instruments and Sibelius simply takes care of everything for you. In addition to using the mouse and computer keyboard, Sibelius will record your real time playing via MIDI with our super-intelligent Flexi-time™ input. You play naturally and Sibelius automatically adjusts to your tempo and transcribes your playing accurately. With Flexi-time, you are not required to play mechanically to a steady click like most scorewriters, but can play musically without having to worry about doing a lot of editing later.

PLAYBACK
Sibelius also deals with playback intelligently. With revolutionary features like Espressivo™ and Soundstage™ your score will playback with unprecedented realism. With Espressivo, artificial intelligence produces natural-sounding phrasing and expression, with independent phrasing for each instrument, and SoundStage reproduces the exact 3D positioning of orchestral and band instruments. Sibelius automatically understands and plays back all standard markings including instrument names, other text (e.g. dynamics, 'pizz.', 'mute'), articulation marks, trills, ties, slurs, pedalling, tremolos, transposing instruments no set-up is required. As an added bonus, MIDI file exporting incorporates all playback features into the MIDI file.

PAGE LAYOUT & PART EXTRACTION
Page layout and part extraction is super-fast. Music is automatically positioned and aligned according to standard music engraving rules (with alternative rules available as House Style options). Layout is entirely automated - no need to use templates and the entire score is automatically reformatted instantly whenever you make any change to it (reformatting typically occurs in 1/10th of a second)!
Part extraction is also very fast and Sibelius takes care of everything automatically. Each part is instantly reformatted to look the very best. Bar numbers and bar rests are automatically placed and transposing instruments are automatically transposed. Changing the layout of the score and extracting parts is incredibly quick in Sibelius and can save you many hours of time.

INTERNET PUBLISHING
Scores can be saved as web pages that can be put straight onto your web site so others can VIEW, TRANSPOSE and even PLAY them. This is a handy way to share your music with friends via e-mail, floppy disk, or CD-ROM. When you save a Sibelius file, one of the choices is "html file." No separate graphic or midi files are required since this is all taken care of by Sibelius. Plus, the person viewing the file doesn't have to have Sibelius. They simply download the free Scorch plug-in on our web site and their browser is enabled for Sibelius viewing.

SCANNING & PLUG-INS
When you purchase Sibelius, it includes Neuratron's PhotoScore Lite scanning software. This music scanning program scans and reads printed music into Sibelius where the music can be edited just like a regular Sibelius score. Scanning provides a fast way to make arrangements, transpositions, and editions.

In addition to Sibelius's built-in features, new features and operations can be added using Plug-Ins. Several come standard with the program and more are being developed. We've made our Plug-In architecture extra powerful by allowing users to create their own via a special music programming language called (appropriately) Manu-script.

PUBLISHING AND PRINTING
Sibelius will make your scores look stunning. That's because Sibelius automatically applies hundreds of music engraving rules to optimize every aspect of your score's appearance. Sibelius's standard music font Opus™ produces an exceptionally high-quality engraved appearance. When a more handwritten look is required, the Inkpen™ font is provided for Jazz & Rock styles. Of course, Sibelius is compatible with all the best known music fonts including Petrucci™, Susato™, Sonata™, Tamburo™ and Ghent™. Sibelius also includes a huge library of music symbols including special noteheads, percussion markings, microtones, ornaments, figured bass and chord symbols. Text and lyric styles can be freely edited or you might prefer Sibelius's built-in styles for different types of text.
Sibelius automatically handles many tricky notation situations that other scorewriters have to fake, such as: collisions between voices (layers), multi-arc slurs with any number of arcs, beams over rests and across barlines, cross-staff beams between three staves, text and wavy lines at any angle (e.g. gliss) and ossia bars.

SPECIAL NOTATIONS
Sibelius lets you create scores using virtually any type of notation. When used in education, Sibelius lets teachers and students notate just about any kind of academic work, such as:
1. Exercises
2. Ear Training
3. Counterpoint
4. Schenkerian analysis

Sibelius is unlike any other notation software package and will enable you to produce music faster & easier than ever. Sibelius is available for Power PC Macintosh computers (system 7.1 or higher) and Windows 95, 98, and NT (Pentium recommended).
