TI:ME Undergraduate Certification

July 3rd, 2007

TI:ME is piloting an undergraduate certification in the 2006-2007 school year. Participating universities include Valley Forge Christian College, Duquesne University, University of Texas at San Antonio, and Berklee College of Music. Undergraduates in the program may qualify for one of three certificates: TI:ME Basic Student Certificate, TI:ME Student Certificate, or TI:ME Advanced Certificate.
Students qualifying for any certificate must complete all 1A and 1B course requirements except the curriculum integration assignments. Instead they complete observations of teachers using music technology and microteachings integrating music technology.
To qualify for a Basic Certificate, the student must complete a total of 30 to 45 hours of instruction. A Student Certificate requires 60 to 90 contact hours while an Advanced Student Certificate requires 225 contact hours. Upon graduation and completion of one year of successful teaching, the following conversions are possible,

  1. A student having earned a TI:ME Basic Student Certificate may apply for alternative certification (if qualified). The standard alternative certification fees apply.
  2. A student with a Student certificate or an Advanced Student certificate may apply for a conversion of their certificate into a standard level 1 certificate (no cost). This permits the student to enroll directly into TI:ME level 2 courses.

Colleges or universities interested in this program are urged to contact Floyd Richmond, Chairman of TI:ME’s Education Committee, at frichmond@vfcc.edu for more information.
