AGENDA ITEM (1043):

1. Discussion re: Transition from Shearspire

DISCUSSION:

The plan suggested was to transition from Shearspire during February and complete the switch over by the beginning of March.

Concern over transition costs, timetable and software compatibility. Making the change over when ALL transition issues are clearly addressed. Completing the transition by the end of March may be a more realistic timetable.

Christine should have an opportunity to re-bid on the same specs that Debbie has bid.

John will meet with Christine again and work out the transition issues with Steve.

Need to develop a listing of web data services based on Lee's break down of services required and send it out to bid as soon as possible.

We need a complete transition plan in writing to guide the process.

AGENDA ITEM (1044):

 2. TI:ME in Indiana - Tim Brimmer (see below)

DISCUSSION:

Let me know what you need from me now, and in terms of reporting in June.

I’ll look forward to seeing how this works for Hoosiers educators.  Butler’s technology-related grad and undergrad courses have been growing (all sections are usually full) ever since they became required for our music and media arts majors a few years ago, but current teachers are “fiddling” more and more with media arts technologies on their own; dropping by state or national convention session or attending one of many 1-day workshops we’re doing through the Indiana State Department of Education ... as attendance in substantial courses dwindles.  I think even most degree-required grad courses in Indiana are becoming minimally attended, as more teachers opt to renew their teaching licenses through incidental “experiences” that may include attending a concert or workshop.  There are no standards for issuing these types of credits, and it seems that every institution of higher ed is issuing credit for anything.

This is not a lament, rather, a heads-up for the need to repackage how we deliver the artistic and technical skills current music educators need to acquire in order to succeed.  On a positive note, it seems that a larger “critical mass” of graduates, at Butler at least, ARE acquiring the technical skills and concepts they’ll need to succeed in emerging/evolving professions better than were just four years ago.  Part of this shift, I’m sure, is due to the visionary guidance and consistent leadership of the TI:ME team.  Perhaps it’s also true that more universities are addressing these skills better in their undergrad curriculum better than ever before.

Discussion centered on Tom's experience with Central Connecticut and Alabama. No problems anticipated as long as Tim keeps the teacher records for TIME certification.
