TI:ME Teacher of the Year Award

PURPOSE: The Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME) will identify and recognize an outstanding music teacher at the annual TI:ME conference. The award will be called: The Music Technology Educator of the Year Award.

 

TIMETABLE:  The award will be awarded annually at the TI:ME National Conference. A request for nominations will be sent out via email by TI:ME to members of the organization, the TI:ME Advisory Board, and other venues. Nominations will be accepted until December 31 of the year prior to when it will be awarded. The recipient will be invited to attend the TI:ME National Conference where the award will be presented. TI:ME will list the yearly recipients on the TI:ME web site.

 

PROCESS:

 

  1. Secure a company/institution to sponsor the award.
  2. By mid-October, post nomination forms on the TI:ME web site
  3. Send out a request for nominations to the TI:ME Board and TI:ME  members.
  4. Announce the award annually after the fall meeting of the TI:ME Board of Directors.
  5. Nominations are due by the end of December.
  6. TI:ME Executive Director appoints a review committee at the fall meeting of the TI:ME Board of Directors.
  7. Nominations reviewed and winner selected by January 1.
  8. Winner announced and invited to attend the TI:ME National Conference.
  9. Announcement of award at the TI:ME National conference
  10. Press release to appropriate magazines and publications after the TI:ME annual conference.

 

CRITERIA: The music educator will have demonstrated outstanding abilities in at least three (3) of the following areas:

1. Develop and use technology with music students creatively and effectively..

2. Demonstrate the use of technology that enhances the national and/or state standards.

3. Utilize current research in music technology effectively.

4. Demonstrate research of significant importance to the field of music education and technology.

5. Develop music technology performance ensembles that demonstrate a high degree of excellence.

6. Demonstrate exemplary training to teachers in the field of music education and technology.

7. Publish articles, books, CD-ROMs and related materials that are of significance in the field of music education and technology.

8. Demonstrate professional involvement in the field of music education and technology such as being active in the professional organizations, presenting at a conference or seminar.

 

ELIGIBILITY:

 

1.     To be eligible, the applicant must have at least three years of professional experience in teaching and/or research in music technology.

2.     Previous recipients are not eligible for the award.

3.     The applicant must be a member of TI:ME in good standing.

4.     Members of the TI:ME Advisory Board are not eligible for the award.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:  Submit nominations materials postmarked no later than December 1 (hopefully, from the TI:ME web site). Include the following in the nominations packet:

 

1. Description of the teaching schedule of nominee. A nominee for the award must teach students or adults in the classroom.

2. Vita of nominee.

3. Narrative of the nomineeÕs accomplishments.

4. Supporting written documentation from students, parents, colleagues, supervisor, and so forth.

5. Video or teaching portfolio demonstrating excellence in music technology.

 

EXPECTATIONS OF THE RECEPIENT OF THE TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD: The recipient of the TI:ME Teacher of the Year Award is expected  to attend the TI:ME National Conference  during the year the presentation is awarded. The Recipient will be recognized at the TI:ME National Conference.
