2013 TI:ME Central Regional Conference

The 2013 TI:ME Central Regional Conference will be hosted February 7-9 at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. Held in conjunction with the OMEA Professional Development Conference, the conference will feature many presentations designed to help teachers understand seamless incorporation of technology into their classes. The iPad has taken classrooms by storm in the last two years, and we’ve got several sessions on how to fire up tablets for music learning. Our sessions on interactive whiteboards will help you extend your lessons into the digital world as you gather ideas and get inspired about this tactile tool of teaching. If you have little or no budget for technology, but have access to at least one computer (or a lab), we’ve got a half dozen must-attend gatherings covering websites and free software.

Dr. William Bauer, Director of Music Education and Associate Professor of Music at Case Western Reserve University, will be delivering the keynote speech, Music Learning in a Digital World. Teaching music with technology can sometimes be complex and create challenges. Dr. Bauer will describe a conceptual framework that teachers can use to integrate technology into music learning experiences for students. Get engaged as you consider the dynamic relationships among musical content, pedagogy and technology when contemplating learning outcomes related to creating, performing, listening to, and understanding music.

This year we will host several live performances by groups incorporating technology. Go from Palestrina to Pink Floyd without missing a beat with the Capital University MIDI Band and the West Liberty University Electronic Music Ensemble. Kids from Columbus will rock out in the Short Stop Youth Center Music Ensemble. Learn how Ableton Live software inspires the electro-acoustic performances of Los Angeles-based Dr. Ariel Alexander & Dr. Jon Bremen. Finally, get your glow sticks out for a techno/house/dubstep performance by students in the Lebanon High School Electronic Music Group. We’re excited to host all of these cutting edge groups!

Please visit the OMEA website www.omea-ohio.org for the full schedule. We look forward to seeing you in Columbus!
